targets and challenges third term

8TH GRADE

A Story of Attention

At your school, it's very common to see that some students are easily distracted by their electronic devices. During class, one of your classmates is constantly laughing at videos they're watching on social media, another isn't responding to class activities because they're listening to music, and another group is recording other classmates to make fun of them and post the videos in their WhatsApp group.

These repeated situations prevent the teacher from progressing with the lesson because the students are constantly interrupting and ignoring the warnings about their misuse of devices. Tired of seeing this and not being able to understand what the teacher is explaining, you intervene by asking your classmates to put away their cell phones, headphones, and other devices and pay attention to the class. In response to your request, one classmate reacts aggressively and invites the others to make memes to make fun of you. When the teacher is reviewing the classwork, he notices that some students haven't made any progress because they've been creating memes. Because of this, the art teacher decides that the students will carry out a campaign promoting good study habits, based on the manual design of memes and stickers, which they will then present at an end-of-year school event.

CHALLENGE

Write short stories that reflect on respect for others and the ethical use of social media.

Stay in School

One of the strategies implemented by the teachers has been to contact their homes, but they have not received a response. With great concern, the homeroom teachers are asking the students if they know any of the reasons for their classmates' absence. Several students report seeing them in the park, working near their homes, and having spoken with them. Some of their responses include wanting to work and support their families financially, or simply not wanting to study. Due to these absences, the school community, led by the Social Studies teacher, has decided to implement an advertising campaign highlighting the benefits and strengths of the educational institution.

 10 GRADE

Make the Most of Your Free Time

Raquel is one of your tenth-grade classmates who spends every day after school online, often taking long naps until late at night. These activities prevent her from being aware of the time she spends on them. Because of this, she has many virtual friends but few real-life friends, as she finds it difficult to interact with her classmates and neighbors. This is a recurring pattern in her daily life and is consequently affecting her academic and social performance, hindering her ability to complete schoolwork and interact with her classmates. This, in turn, negatively impacts her interpersonal and communication skills.

One day, during a team-building activity, Raquel discovered she had no one to work with. This led her to reflect on how she was spending her time and what she could do to use her free time more effectively. She was motivated to research cultural, sports, environmental, and spiritual activities taking place in her neighborhood and city. You and your classmates will help Raquel design an entrepreneurship project devised by the Technology and Political Science teachers, where a product or service (construction, video game, music, film, painting, etc.) in which Raquel has skills and can offer is financed.

Beyond the School

Elizabeth and Vanesa, your homeroom teachers, led a roundtable discussion for students to share their visions of what they want to do after graduating from high school. Martha mentioned she wants to be a sculptor, Maicol wants to be a chef, Gilberto wants to be an entrepreneur, Jackson wants to be a social media monetizer (YouTuber-UGC), other students expressed their desire to start working, and some said they wanted to go to university. After the presentations, the homeroom teachers asked them if they already had a clear idea of the actions or steps they needed to take to make their visions a reality; they looked at each other and smiled, showing that their ideas were still in their early stages.

The Technology and Political Science teachers set the goal of helping them identify the actions they should take to achieve their visions. Therefore, you and your classmates will design an entrepreneurial project where a product or service (construction, video game, music, film, painting, etc.) in which you have skills and can offer is financed.

Organize the Career Day fair where different university careers will be promoted, indicating the respective profiles, costs and characteristics of those who intend to study them and where they can do so.
